Fantasy Favorites For Bookworms

I’ve been drawn to fantasy since childhood. I’m not the only one who’d rather live inside her head than in the real world, right? ...right, guys? While there’s an entire world of fantasy I still need to discover, today I wanted to share some of my current fantasy favorites

I’ve been drawn to fantasy since childhood. I’m not the only one who’d rather live inside her head than in the real world, right? ...right, guys?

While there’s an entire world of fantasy I still need to discover, today I wanted to share some of my current fantasy favorites.

Books and Authors

  1. The Harry Potter series is kind of a given seeing as I’m a huge HP nerd :)
  2. Robin McKinley’s books. I’ve loved almost every book McKinley’s written. My favorites are Rose Daughter, The Hero and the Crown, and Pegasus (still waiting for the sequel to this though!).
  3. The Hobbit. I’m currently reading Lord of the Rings (finally!) but this will always be a favorite.
  4. Peter Pan. There’s something special about the imagination in this book. It reminds me of the real magic in our lives.

Movies and T.V. Shows

  1. The Hobbit. I know, at first, I was upset about them making three movies for this one novel. I mean, it’s a good book, but three movies? However, I have to eat my words because the movies were amazing. In my opinion, they did the book proud.
  2. Once Upon a Time. The first few seasons are the best (the later ones...eh...) I do love how this show brings fantasy and fairytale stories to life.
  3. The Princess Bride. This might be more fairytale than fantasy, but it’s so good. It counts, yay?
  4. Fantasia. Classical music + fantasy? Yes, please!

Podcasts

Sword & Laser. Sword and Laser describes itself as a “science fiction and fantasy-themed book club, video show and podcast.” I've been listening to these lately when I walk the dog.

PodCastle. This podcast reads fantasy stories to its audience rather than simply talking about the stories. If you’re stuck in a car driving to or from work each day, check this one out.

Artwork and Fun

And one of my favorite fantasy elements is art (and fun things like jewelry, mugs, and knick knacks I don’t need). I have a few boards on Pinterest where I keep a collection of these fantasy favorites: "Paranormal Fantasy" and "Fairy Tales and Fantasy."

So, bookworms, do you have any fantasy favorites?
